Thanksgiving 2000 - Page 1

Skiing with Brett over the Y2K Thanksgiving weekend. Melena skiied a couple of days with us, but I didn't remember to bring out the digital camera until this last day.

Brett starts his run. The sun was behind him, barely shielded from the lense by my hand. You can't see much of him.
Here he comes...
closer...
and closer...
Brett makes smooth, easy turns.
Wahoo.
Ok, that was tough, so we headed to the bar for drinks. Luckily, the bar was open at 10am. I think this is Brett's second Mt. Bachelor.
Ah, nice and limbered up, we're back out on the slopes. Believe it or not, the liquer helps.
Brett is skiing a bit more aggressively.
Step, turn.
Nice shot.
Coming around...
and...
We have lift-off.
Now, that's nice form.
Whoops!
Ok. This requires some explaination. We were using the CoolPix on rapid-shot mode, allowing us to get 2 shots per second. This run was Brett's first try with the camera, and he accidentally got about 10 frames of me just standing at the top of the run.
Once I got started, this guy got in front of me and I couldn't get around him.
Things just weren't going right.
Finally, I faked him out and got past. I threw out a bunch of photos with him zig-zagging in front of me.
Most of these shots are too far away. It wasn't Brett's fault; the CoolPix takes some getting used to.
I'm skipping the really boring shots.
La, la, la...
Hmmm, hmmm...
I think my turns were too quick for the CoolPix, since I seem to be really zig-zagging.
What's this? Terrible form. Never do this on your turns.
Whoa. See ya later.
Aaaah. The mountain. This is from the top of the Pine Martin lift.
You can tell that this is very early in the season by the scarce snow. The base was 17 inches up here.

I really like this shot. Brett is a bit hard to discern, but the wind whipping the snow around on the peak is gorgeous.
