You may ask yourself why an important, successful Java programmer like myself would have no Java applets on his page. That is a good question. It is such a good question that it has two answers: the answer I tell people, and the real answer. The answer I like to use is that applets are far too bulky to be used as mere window dressing, and I truly believe that. With current network transfer rates (for the average home user) a page laden with applets is a page that is never fully loaded before the viewer moves on. Animated GIFs work better in this respect. However, the real reason my page has no applets is that I'm far too busy doing things and working on projects that I consider more important to program flashy applets. I tried; I'll admit I've done the ticker tape and the slideshow just like every programmer who got into Java when it was still in Alpha release. I am happy to say that I got it out of my system then, and I haven't bothered converting any of those applets to Beta, so you won't see them here.
