What is up with Netscape?? As I write this, the current version wide ly in use is 3.0, with various betas floating around (I think 8 is the latest). Java support seems to be getting worse, and worse as time goes on! There are s everal serious bugs, they got the security absurdly tight, and it is severely sl ow. I used to think they would be able to survive MicroSloth, and I used to wis h them the best of luck. I'll support almost anybody in favor of MicroSoft. Ho wever, the Java situation is getting absurd. I'm looking to HotJava right now. It has problems of its own, but at least it runs applets correctly, quickly, an d the user can choose the level of security s/he wants.

Addendum:Netscape sucks. I use 3.01 when I have to, withough Java support, and HotJ ava otherwise. HotJava may be slower, but at least Java support is robust. Act ually, 3.01 isn't too bad as a browser. 4.x stinks, though. It crashes more of ten than not (understandable for a beta release), I can't even get to the addres s book in the message center because of seg faults, and the newsgroup browser is completely worthless. They should have left it the way it was in 3.01; at leas t it was useable in a pinch. And what is with this bloating? Every version see s another meg or two onto the executable size. Don't tell me it has to be that way if I want the features; that argument may have worked when Netscape didn't h ave any competition, but look at the file sizes of Internet Explorer, which offe rs similar functionality, and tell me Netscape isn't bloated.
